my most viewed blog post ever was about Twitter - put me off blogging about it for life (I like to keep things on an even keel - one post with 6000 views in a day messes with my blog-karma ;) ) - but I do feel compelled to write another one. Fortunately I now have another blog to write it on, so it doesn't spoil the music-centric vibe of my main one!

Yeah, I'm not big on blogs about blogging either. I know they need to exist, but I'd still rather read Random Acts of Reality or similar. I think blog posts about Twitter are fair enough, but those column inches given to Twitter are often just journos filling space because they've been spending too much time on Twitter again.

it's a problem all bloggers face - blog about blogging or about twitter and you look like a self-referential moron. Don't blog about blogging or twitter, and you're not in a position to counter the nonsense of the people who do.

Catch 22...

The newspapers, however, as you say, have no such excuse. ;) x

There are plenty of people not in media who find it useful and relevant, but for most of my friends it really doesn't have a great deal to offer - other than a really good skiving tool. Which was the point I was making, however clumsily.

While I can see that twitter has become a great tool for journalists, I have to disagree that it's not for others.
I get a great deal of information about my technological field coming to me all day from twitter. I get to know about events (e.g. @skillsmatter or #ldnug), conferences, presentations in fields that interest me.
Then I can head home on the train, and get near realtime updates on why its stuck outside milton keynes (@NRE_Virgin). I can even have a moan about it (@virgintrains).
And best of all, I can keep up friendships too.

However I must completely agree that I don't need to read about the METAdata (twittering about twitter or blogging about blogging).
