I remember doing a book event once and there was an older boy sat making one of the first Mixels characters at the back of the room. I was insanely jealous, of course, as I love making LEGO sets. But it made me realise how great they were – a portable slice of LEGO that could occupy kids’ minds while out and about. His younger sister was there to hear me talk and draw, and the LEGO set made a very preferable alternative to giving the boy a phone to play with. It certainly kept him busy.
And so, jump forward a few years, and my own daughter has caught the Mixels bug. They’re better than Minifig packs, in many ways, as they need to be built like a standard LEGO set and don’t cost that much extra. You essentially get a lot more for your money, even if you don’t get a Minifig.
Over the years, the Mixels have grown more complex, and the figures are cooler too. New parts – and parts used really cleverly – make for some great new characters. These figures are from Series 4, but I know Series 5 are out soon. Check them out here!
I know it’s not Christmas, but Mixels really are the best stocking filler.
Look how happy my daughter is with her finished Mixels!
