The BBC’s Spooks has always been a cruel gig for its characters. Ever since then-famous Holby City actress Lisa Faulkner had her head stuffed in a deep fat fryer in episode two, the show has enjoyed a reputation for writing out cast members at a rate that would cause other series to be crippled by … [Read more...]

Spooks: Series 9, Episode 1 – Dork Review
Spooks is back! One of the few action dramas to last on British television without being aimed at the “family” audience, I never stop enjoying it on some primal level. Yes, it long ago abandoned any pretence at realism, but usually balances itself just right on the barrier between fun and serious … [Read more...]
Merlin: The Tears Of Uther Pendragon Part Two – Dork Review
Last week on Merlin, Morgana turned evil and betrayed Camelot to Emilia Fox. This week, there is a massive siege. Seriously, it’s huge. You’ll wonder how they can afford it on a BBC budget. You’ll hope that the government don’t cut the Beeb’s funding, otherwise all subsequent series will look … [Read more...]
Merlin: The Tears Of Uther Pendragon Part One – Dork Review
Merlin is back! Already! It seemed like only yesterday that I was posting my wishlist for the new series, and now I’ve seen the new episode. And this wasn’t one of those debuts which gives us a gentle reintroduction to the series, nope. All action, all angst, all Arthurian. But was it good? Or … [Read more...]
Merlin – Our Series Three Wish List
Before the brand new series of Merlin kicked off this weekend, Nick gave us his suggestions for what he'd like to see. Has series three delivered? The third series of the BBC’s Merlin is underway, and you could cut the excitement with a massive jousting implement. The Arthurian version of … [Read more...]
Vampires Suck – The Trailer Rises
In just over a month, Vampires Suck is released in the UK. From the school of cinema that brought us Epic Movie, Not Another Teen Movie and countless others, it attempts to mercilessly shred the Twilight movies. And other vampire cash-ins, but mostly Twilight. In fact, if you’ve somehow managed … [Read more...]
Doctor Who Adventure Games: TARDIS – Dork Review
Nearly two months after Doctor Who disappeared from TV until Christmas, a new Adventure Game appears! With no other Who product of late, at least until Sarah Jane Adventures starts back up in autumn, this prospect excited me a little. The last two were decent, after all, and it’s always pleasant to … [Read more...]
Doctor Who and Sherlock news a-go-go from Edinburgh
The Edinburgh TV Festival this weekend has brought forth some interesting announcements about the 2011 returns of Sherlock and Doctor Who from the BBC. Holmes confirmed for another coat-tastic year? The Doctor to regenerate in two separate halves? Clearly Steven Moffat’s Cardiff-based TV factory is … [Read more...]
Vexed on BBC – Dork Review
Admittedly, the BBC’s Vexed doesn’t contain any aliens, super-powers or other geek talking points. It’s a cop show, about a pair of mismatched partners and their attempts to solve crime, swinging towards the blacker comic end of the comedy-drama scale. If I had to compare it to any existing geek … [Read more...]
Sherlock – The Great Game: Dork Review
The short, intense affair of Sherlock came to an end on Sunday. After the first episode, we all threw an internet parade and someone at the Beeb announced excitedly that a new series was coming. Then the second episode happened, everyone was a bit disillusioned and that BBC source must have been … [Read more...]
