Doctor Who and Sherlock news a-go-go from Edinburgh

Steven Moffat, Benedict Cumerbatch and Matt SmithThe Edinburgh TV Festival this weekend has brought forth some interesting announcements about the 2011 returns of Sherlock and Doctor Who from the BBC. Holmes confirmed for another coat-tastic year? The Doctor to regenerate in two separate halves? Clearly Steven Moffat’s Cardiff-based TV factory is hard at work.

First up, Sherlock, the Mark Gatiss-co-produced revisitation of the legendary detective, is to return for a second series. Considering the scale of the cliffhanger they visited upon us in the first finale, I’d have been quite appalled if it hadn’t, but it’s still good to have it confirmed.

Dork Adore gets a theme tune! (With a little help from Jay Z)

You know what Dork Adore needs now we’re up for a Cosmo Blog award (vote for us!)? A theme tune. This will do nicely. The spoof of Jay Z and Alicia Keys’ hit song Empire State of Mind (renamed Entrepreneur State of Mind) comes from the Pantless Knights team and features a bearded gangsta spittin’ lyrics about Twitter and Steve Jobs.... Read

Vexed on BBC – Dork Review

Vexed on BBC – Dork Review

Admittedly, the BBC’s Vexed doesn’t contain any aliens, super-powers or other geek talking points. It’s a cop show, about a pair of mismatched partners and their attempts to solve crime, swinging towards the blacker comic end of the comedy-drama scale. If I had to compare it to any existing geek fare, it would be Life On Mars, albeit with all... Read

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: Dork Review

Ewan Swain was one of the lucky few who bagged a ticket to a screening of Scott Pilgrim. Here’s his review. Ok, first let me lay my cards on the table. I read comic books. I play video games. I love snappy pop culture references. I was a big fan of Spaced, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Level 1 – A New Hero Awaits Though even with all... Read

Back to the Future gadgets we’re still waiting for

This year is the 25th anniversary of Back To The Future, which makes me feel both nostalgic and really, really old. The trilogy of movies has been re-released in a Blu-Ray box set, with some extra never-seen-before scenes in the features. Back To The Future 2 partly takes place in 2015, which I guess would have been considered futuristic back in the... Read

At the premiere of The Expendables

Movies don’t come much more star-packed than the upcoming action movie The Expendables. With a cast including Sylvester Stallone (who also directs) Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, it’s likely to be a huge box office hit. Particularly for those of us who remember the stars before various questionable... Read

Sherlock – The Great Game: Dork Review

The short, intense affair of Sherlock came to an end on Sunday. After the first episode, we all threw an internet parade and someone at the Beeb announced excitedly that a new series was coming. Then the second episode happened, everyone was a bit disillusioned and that BBC source must have been wondering if they’d be swallowing a grenade. Fortunately,... Read

Toy Story 3: Dork Review

Toy Story 3: Dork Review

After eleven years, Toy Story returns! Of course, the original films were fantastic, genuine modern classics. Not only that, they launched the current era of animated movies, by proving that computer-generated characters had feelings too. So a little bit of pressure existed on Pixar for this one. Fortunately, it is great. I mean, it really is. Much... Read

Sherlock – The Blind Banker: Dork Review

Sherlock – The Blind Banker: Dork Review

After the first episode of Sherlock, audience reaction was hysterical. Twitter had an orgasm and reviewers spilled so much praise onto their keyboards that they exploded in a shower of plastic. (Seriously, I’ve only just picked the S key out of my hair.) So perhaps it was inevitable that when the second instalment aired, it would seem a bit of a... Read
